Cale is 11 years old and, in the tradition of the town of Samarado, Tony the Dragon Master will choose a dragon for him and give him a task to perform: Cale must bring his dragon back to the castle before the moon reaches its highest point in the sky.
Cale had dreamed of having a magnificent flying dragon, but Mondrago is not exactly what he?d hoped for: he?s fairly big, can?t fly, stumbles constantly, is easily distracted, and only wants to play. With a dragon like this, Cale is never going to pass the test and return to his castle in time.
